As a kid I dreamt of being a left winger for Liverpool, but my football career never progressed beyond playing for Sunday pub outfit Whimple FC in the UK, so these days I dream up ideas and help make them happen as a writer, art director and creative director.
Since graduating from The Surry Institute of Art in the UK with a design degree, I’ve worked at some of the world’s best ad agencies in the US and Australia including R/GA New York, Crispin Porter and Bogusky in Colorado, Clemenger BBDO Sydney and was part of two agency start-ups in Sydney; Droga5 and 72andSunny.
Currently I’m a Creative Director at Ogilvy, Sydney helping run the agencies biggest account, KFC, as well as working on new business, Fire and Rescue NSW and Wotif.
I love ideas that don’t feel like advertising, ideas that solve business problems, ideas that influence culture and get real people talking.
And along the way I have collaborated with lots of smart people to make lots of different types of work. From Twitter stunts, viral films, products, long term brand platforms, activations to some ads.
I reminded families of the importance of eating together with MasterFoods ‘Make Dinnertime Matter’ project and the film became Australia’s fourth most shared ad of all time, amassing over 128 million organic views.
For Virgin Australia, we sent three Sydneysiders to LA to spend three, actioned packed days there with ‘4320 LA’. The catch, they had to ‘Tweet’ about it every minute.
We built ‘Catstacam’, an Instagram enabled cat camera for Whiskas so that cat owners could better understand their feline friends.
For Virgin Mobile, we started a global debate about good and bad music with ‘Right Music Wrongs’ and to kick off the campaign got Vanilla Ice to apologise for his musical crimes.
I helped a gum brand become a music promoter by turning pre-rolls in a talent show for aspiring musicians with Extra ‘Support Acts’.
For Domino’s we celebrated start ups and invested in them the only way we know how - with cheesy pie in our ‘Powered By Pizza’ campaign.
Toshiba’s ‘Made in 17 hours’, promoted the Portege laptops 17 hour battery life with Japanese artist Tomokzau Matsuyama creating an entire exhibition of work from scratch on the 17 journey from Tokyo to Sydney using only one full charge.
And we made the Dolmio ‘Pepper Hacker’, a real pepper cracker that turned tech off and family dinnertimes on with the stunt getting over 100 million views.
I’ve also helped win new business, agency of the year titles, taught at Miami Ad School in New York and if awards are important, I've won weird animal statues and pencils at D&AD, Cannes, One Show, Webbys, Spikes, Clios, Adfest, LIA, New York Festivals, Effies, Facebook Awards, ADMA, YoungGuns, AWARD and a few others.
I hope you like my work as much as my mum does.
